7 Genius Ways to Use Your French Press

In case you’re still on the fence about investing in a French Press, we’re here to convince you to take the plunge (see what we did there?) with this list of genius things you can do with your device. Most of these have nothing to do with coffee and are so simple, you’ll wonder why you didn’t think of these before.

Froth your milk

Use your press to get that barista-envy, frothy creamy foam by pouring cold milk into the press and plunging repeatedly. Leave it in the microwave to stabilise and place it on your hot cup of joe!

Add hops to beer

If you like your hops, add some to the Press and pour beer over them. Leave it to cool in the fridge and then push the plunger down — holding the hops in place! Pour and enjoy your brewery quality beer!

Rinse grains

This is so simple and handy, you can thank us later. Pour grains like rice and quinoa into the carafe and cover it with water. Press the plunger in to separate the water, and your grains will be rinsed and ready to cook!

Infused water

This is a great way to serve some refreshing spa-water on a hot summer day. Just add fruit or herbs (we love the combination of mint and cucumber) and cover it with cold water. Leave it in the fridge overnight, press and enjoy the next day!

Juice berries

This is a great way to make pressed juice, and is one of the coolest things you can do with your French Press. Put your choice of fruit in the Press plunge away! This may not work on harder fruits like apples though. Stick to berries, watermelons and citrus fruits.

Brew tea

Simply put your loose leaf tea to the bottom of the carafe and pour hot water over it. Let it steep and strain. Pro tip: push the plunger down slowly to extract maximum flavour from the leaves!

Homemade almond milk

Blend your cup of pre-soaked almonds with 3 cups of water (or even coconut water!) and pour the mixture into your French Press. Slowly press the plunger down and separate the almond from the milk and your homemade milk is ready!

We’ll leave you with a piece of invaluable life advice: don’t pour something hot into your French Press followed immediately by something cold (and vice versa). Let the device come to room temperature between uses. Happy plunging!
