Coffee inspired skin-care recipes

In case you haven’t noticed, we love coffee. It’s an instant pick-me-up and also the star ingredient in so many of our favourite DIY skincare recipes. It’s also handy to repurpose used coffee grounds for this instead of just throwing them out.

Interestingly, coffee is full of antioxidants, and caffeine is used in a lot of eye treatments too. Plus, you’ll save on store-bought beauty products while recycling coffee grounds! It’s a win-win.

Here are a few of our favourite skincare tricks with coffee.

Eye Cream

  • 4 tbsp coffee
  • 1 capsule of Vitamin E
  • 2 tbsp beeswax
  • 2 tbsp jojoba oil

Melt the beeswax and combine all the ingredients together.

Place it in a container and store in the fridge.

Use everyday

TIP!

We love to use our coffee eye cream with a jade roller cold from the fridge. The cold temperature also helps reduce puffiness under the eyes.

Put a Mask On It

  • 2tbsp yoghurt
  • 1 tbsp coffee powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric

Call us old-school but this works!

Combine the ingredients together and apply it on your face and neck for 15-20 minutes.

Rinse with warm water for a healthy glow.

TIP!

Coffee grounds can be too harsh on delicate facial skin. You can get away with a lot more for your body, but if you want to make a facial exfoliant, use finer grounds (like espresso) or coffee powder.

Let’s Talk Colour

  • 2 tsps coffee grounds
  • Dollop of conditioner

We bet you didn’t see this one coming.

Add a bit of coffee to your conditioner and let it sit on your hair for about five minutes to enhance the chestnut brown hair colour.

TIP!

This may not be very effective on grey hair, so you might have to repeat the process a few times over. Always remember to do an allergen patch test with any DIY recipe.

Let’s Wrap it Up

  • 1/2 cup warm coffee grounds
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil
  • Roll of plastic wrap

Give yourself an at-home pedicure with a luxurious wrap.

Mix coffee grounds with coconut oil, heat it in a microwave for 10-15 seconds.

Apply the mixture up till your knees and wrap it up.

Leave it on for 15-20 minutes for moisturized, soft skin.

TIP!

Use the grounds as a gentle exfoliator after removing the wrap. Coffee contains caffeic acid, which boosts collagen production.
